Our guest for this session of ‘The Mindset Shift’ is Alan Cox, Chief Executive of Core, Ireland’s largest media communications company.
In this episode, he talks to Tim McCarthy about where it all started, from following in his Dad’s footsteps to embarking on his first taste of media on radio at the age of 14. He talks through the evolution of radio during the late 80s and early 90s when he worked as a DJ on pirate radio.
Once he left radio, he went on to focus on his studies in advertising and began working his way up the ladder in Media, which all began in Peter Owens Agency. He then went on to where he got his first big break in Bell Advertising when he was 24 years of age. Here he got his first foray into management which was very successful due to the advice and counsel he received from his father.
He takes us to a challenging point in his career, when he was MD for ‘The Network’ Agency and was faced with merging two very different cultures.
He finishes on 2020, where he speaks about Core’s main focus during this time which was keeping the culture together and supporting their people. The company achieved this through open communication, full transparency and remaining united.
