The Most Sought After Digital Marketing Roles 2019

As we move into the latter part of 2019 (I know, where has the time gone?) there’s more conversation around automation and growth hacking than ever before with the knock-on effect causing the demand for certain roles in digital marketing to skyrocket.

Here at TalentHub we have seen huge demand for specialist skills such as Saas marketing, marketing analytics, data-driven content, customer engagement and performance marketing (PPC, SEO, Display). With ever-increasing demand, and with the war for talent only beginning, I thought it would be a good time to share some valuable insights into this market to help you with your growth strategies for 2020/2021.

Here are the most in-demand digital marketing roles we’re seeing at the moment;

PPC Specialists

For 2019 we are seeing a spike in the need for PPC specialists and the reason for this is due to their unique skill set. A PPC Specialist manages internet pay-per-click advertising campaigns including the strategy, design, implementation, SEO, and analysis of ad performance. It is a challenging role and it takes the right type of candidate to nail a PPC campaign.

A good PPC Specialist needs to really display their passion for the role; they need to fully immerse themselves in the PPC space and keep up to date with the very frequent changes and launches to the ad platforms. It’s also vital that they have a strategic and tactical mindset in order to have that competitive edge that is needed for PPC.

Major skills required for this role are:

● An understanding of how paid ads rank in search engines

● Advanced PPC certification training

● An analytical mindset is needed to look at the numbers and analyse the statistics that will improve campaign’s performance.

When you take a look at the checklist of tasks a PPC Specialist fulfills, it’s easy to understand why this role is so valuable to brands and agencies

B2B Demand Generation Marketers

With the Technology sector in Ireland booming there has been a current spike in the need for B2B demand generation marketers. Tech giants such as HubSpot, Salesforce, Sage, and indegious Irish SaaS start-ups are all crying out for lead generation skills.

Important requirements for this role are:
● Experience with marketing automation tools such as Marketo and Hubspot
● Google Adwords and Analytics certifications
● Analytical skills and the ability to perform reports and show marketing spend is generating revenue

Marketing Technologist

The Marketing Technologist role has been around for a few years, but from what the market is telling us it’s about to reach mass adoption. Marketing Technologists on the

team will provide the deep insights needed to optimise, as marketers need to work with more and more tools such as Salesforce to ensure the success of their campaigns.

This role can power an organisation to new heights – and quickly. Evelyn Wolf, Marketing Strategist of BusinessBrew, explains why:

“A strong Marketing Technologist, when presented with a problem, can find the root cause based on data. Understanding the cause is the first step to finding the right solution. In addition, their technology-oriented mindset means they can take on the running of marketing tools, backend implementation and more. Many digital marketers are great at tool implementation. However, the understanding of how tools work together is taken to a whole new level when working with a technologist.”

Content Strategist

Before you yawn, thinking that you’ve heard how important content is a million times already, the demand for content marketers is still ever growing, where more and more companies wish to maximise the power of content for their brand.

Brands who invest strategically in content stand to clean up, whether they’re B2B or B2C. Content is not considered king for nothing after all. But investing in content means building out the content role (beyond writing blog posts) – and hiring smartly.

A robust Content Strategist will have the following:
● Strategic mindset who knows how to direct, plan and design content that reflects your business goals

● Editorial mindset with a strong ability to analyse and present content performance

● Content ideation, creating useful content that will resonate with your target audience
